Simple Goal Setting

Do's & Don'ts of Goal Setting

When an individual wishes to better manage their time, they should turn to a variety of strategies that can bring about effective results in achieving goals. Here are a few dos and don'ts associated with goal setting to help you get started:

Do make your goals clear and specific

If you feel as if you aren't fulfilling your personal goals, this occurrence may come from a lack of not efficiently setting goals for yourself. Many successful people who have found happiness, often turn to written goals on a piece of paper in order to follow the path they believe will help them achieve their personal plans and goals. One of the reasons they are able to succeed is through the constant review of goals that are kept in an easily reachable location.

As you establish a "could-do" list, you should always try to incorporate your long-term goals into the scheme of things. This is because daily activities can be used to bring you closer to your personal goals. When individuals fail to set goals for themselves, they find a lot of letdowns within their personal and professional life. When goals and objectives are never set or defined, you get further and further away from achieving the things you wish to enjoy in life.

Do evaluate how you use your time

The way that you use your time is an important move when it comes to realizing your dreams and goals. Sometimes, you may feel as if you are not fulfilling the goals you have set for yourself. Do you ever feel that you are constantly behind in your work and you wish to find a way to dig yourself out of the rut? Try looking for ways to make things easier so you can at least enjoy a clear view of the things you want out of life.

Don't waste your time

Don't waste time on tasks that suck up vital energy that could be better spent on actions that solidify your future. Once you get that feeling of "constantly catching up" out of your head, you can then concentrate on some of the important tasks that make or break your path towards achieving your goals. This will also help you to better manage your time when it comes to choosing the goals that lead to positive results for your future.

Do organization your time and efforts

Do use a calendar that lets you follow your progress and personal deadlines regarding your goals. Computer reminders, cell phone alerts, post-it notes and palm pilots also allow individuals to stay on top of things.

Do make a plan for yourself

Do have a plan that allows you to achieve the goals you want for your future. Without one, the road to success is very bumpy and can sometimes lead to a dead end.

Don't let challenges deter you from your goals

Don't meander through your personal plans without recognizing the threats that lurk in the shadows. You have to take the attitude that anything may happen to set an obstacle or barrier in your way. Problems are not an uncommon occurrence. When you seek out the possibilities for errors and problems in your life plan, early identification can help you find the solutions that can avoid major setbacks.

Do exercise good management skills

Individuals can measure their progress through analyzing their time management skills and efforts toward achieving personal goals. It is important to use your time wisely in order to control the things you wish to obtain in life though hard work.

Don't give into time wasters

There are many different factors that can drain precious time from the things you need to do to make your future dreams and goals a reality. The events, people or circumstances that eat away your time from working toward achieving your goals are called time wasters. eg. Watching TV, spending time negative people, etc.

When you make it a habit to avoid activities and people that cause distractions, you can focus on doing the things needed to reach your goals.
